We are very excited that the CAA Adult Education Committee has joined the Jewish Book Council Network for the year!
The Jewish Book Council (JBC), founded in 1944, is the longest-running organization devoted exclusively to the support and celebration of Jewish literature. For over seventy years, they have used literature to bring people together for meaningful discussions around Jewish life, identity, and culture. As a part of the JBC network, we are thrilled to welcome authors from far and wide to our community here in Niskayuna, to share their teachings and experiences with us throughout the year. Read more about the network on the JBC website: https://www.jewishbookcouncil.org/jbc-authors/network.
We have planned a 4-session series titled “Meet the Authors,” at which we will have an opportunity to virtually meet and engage with a small selection of the more than 250 authors from the JBC network this year. Please save the dates for all of these programs, which will be on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm every other month from October to June on Zoom.
We’ll be joined by:
27 Oct 22 — Jean Hoffman Lewanda: Witness to History – From Vienna to Shanghai
23 Feb 23 — Joel Burcat: Strange Fire
27 Apr 23 — Ira Rosen: Ticking Clock: Behind the Scenes at 60 Minutes
8 Jun 23 — Debby Applegate: Madam: The Biography of Polly Adler, Icon of the Jazz Age
In addition to that 4-session series, we’re also bringing three more authors for the school: an author/illustrator duo of a graphic novel for an afternoon program (Sunday 23 October @ 4:30 pm– Arnon Shorr and Josh Edelglass, José and the Pirate Captain Toledano) a children’s book author on a religious school morning (Sunday 23 April @ 10:30 am– Nancy Churnin, Dear Mr. Dickens), and a fantasy novel author who is coming to our Hebrew High teen book club when they discuss her book (Wednesday 16 November @ 6:00 pm– GennaRose Nethercott, Thistlefoot). We are permitted to continue to make requests throughout the year, so it is possible for us to bring other authors to our community to meet our whole community or some subset. Please get in touch with the office if you’re interested.
